Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
OpenLadder is a free, community-run tennis ladder. These terms keep things fair for everyone. They're short on purpose — by creating an account, you agree to them.
1. Your account
- One account per person. No duplicate accounts to game the standings or evade a ban.
- Use your real name. Other players need to recognize you on-court.
- Pick the NTRP level that honestly matches your play. Sandbagging (playing well below your true level) ruins the experience for everyone in that ladder.
- You're responsible for keeping your password safe and for anything done from your account.
- You must be 18 or older to use OpenLadder. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.
2. Acceptable use
Don't:
- Harass, threaten, or harm other players — on or off the platform.
- Impersonate another person.
- Submit false scores, fake matches, or collude with other players to manipulate standings.
- Scrape, copy, or republish other players' contact information.
- Send unsolicited commercial messages (spam) to other players.
- Attempt to break into the platform, abuse our infrastructure, or interfere with other people's use.
3. Match conduct
- Matches are self-officiated. Call your own lines honestly; when in doubt, the ball is in.
- Show up on time. If your opponent is 15+ minutes late without notice, you may claim a default win.
- The winner reports the score within 24 hours.
- Either player can edit a reported score within the 24-hour window if it's wrong.
See the full match rules for format details (best-of-3, tiebreaks, balls, etc.).
4. Disputes
If you disagree with a reported score:
- First try to resolve it directly with your opponent — use the in-app score-edit feature within 24 hours.
- If that doesn't work, click Dispute on the match. Points are withheld until it's resolved.
- The site owner reviews disputes and can keep the reported score, edit it, or void the match entirely. The owner's decision is final.
We aim to resolve disputes within a few days. Both players are notified of the outcome by email.
5. Free service, no warranty
OpenLadder is free to use, with no subscription or membership. We provide it "as-is" without warranty of any kind — we don't guarantee it will always be available, error-free, or fit any particular purpose. We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We'll do our best to be a good steward, but we're not obligated to keep the platform running indefinitely.
6. Suspension & termination
- We can suspend or remove your account if you violate these terms — typically without warning for serious offenses (harassment, score-fixing, impersonation).
- For minor or accidental violations we'll usually reach out first.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing support@playopenladder.com.
- Past match scores stay on the public standings even after an account is closed (we don't rewrite ladder history), but profile info and contact details are removed.
7. Liability
Tennis carries inherent physical risks. You arrange matches and play them at your own risk — OpenLadder is just the introduction. We're not responsible for injuries, property damage, or any other harm that happens on or near a court. We're also not responsible for the conduct of other players you meet through the platform; meet them in safe, public places and use common sense.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, our liability to you for any claim arising from your use of OpenLadder is limited to $0— that's what you paid us.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA. Any disputes that can't be resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts of North Carolina.
9. Changes & contact
If we change these terms materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and announce the change on the What's New page. Continued use of OpenLadder after a change constitutes acceptance.
